Cannes 2025: Kristen Stewart debuts as director with film about trauma

After more than two decades in front of the cameras, Kristen Stewart 35, decided to step back and stays behind the lens. The first film directed by the artist, titled “The Chronology of Water” premiere in Cannes Festival This Friday (16).

The feature film is on the show UN RECOIN REGARD which highlights new filmmakers. Production is based on the same name book by Lidia Yuknavitch.

The plot tells the story of an Olympic swimmer who escapes an abusive home with a scholarship in Texas, United States. After losing her due to addiction, she goes to another university and, through writing, finds a way to overcome the past.

The production is starring Imogen Poots (“Dating or Freedom”), Thora Birch (“American beauty”), Jim Belushi (“K-9: a good dog for the dog”) and more.
