According to Canon, part of the growth strategy is to “develop an imaging business focused on optical technology.” In particular, Canon expects to expand the scale of this business through “acquisition of new users” and “development of new products.” As a result, the company hopes to achieve sales of one trillion yen annually.

The manufacturer claims that it maintains “steady demand among professionals and advanced hobbyists”, but admits that “the market as a whole seems to be at the bottom.” To achieve its one trillion yen goal, Canon plans to “further expand its EOS R system camera and lens lineup.” Specifically, the company hopes to “expand its lens lineup at the same rate as it has been in the period from 2020 to 2021.” This means that Canon plans to release an average of eight lens models each year between 2022 and 2025, or a total of 32 lenses. This means that Canon plans to more than double its current lens lineup, growing from 26 to 58 models in about the same amount of time since the RF mount was announced in 2018.
