«Can’t Stop Christmas»: in his new video Robbie Williams turns into Boris Johnson

To remove the thought of a Christmas in lockdown Robbie Williams chooses the weapon of irony, transforming himself in the video of Can’t Stop Christmas, his latest single, in one of the most crucial characters of the health emergency in Britain: he first Boris Johnson. Unrecognizable with the straw yellow wig on his head and with plasticine spread on his face, the Robbie-Boris appears to the singer, now doubled, through a television on.

Along with an organized Downing Street briefing and a dancing Theresa May, Williams plays with the parody and strives to give a smile to the many fans who, in this period, are hoping to draw from Christmas some of the warmth that in recent months has been so difficult to hold.

Directed by Dan Massie, the video for Can’t Stop Christmas tells of a 2020 divided between Facetime and Zoom and of a December 25 based on hand sanitizers as gifts and of family reunions with high distancing rates.

“Santa Claus is on his sleigh, but now he’s two meters away” Robbie Williams sings taking the opportunity to invite the audience to stay at home. Produced by Guy Chambers and Richard Flack, the song is the spearhead of the deluxe version of The Christmas Present, the first Christmas record of the frontman of Take That, who with this work equaled Elvis Presley’s record as a solo artist with the most albums in the first position. In the disc it is present a mix of original songs and Christmas covers made with exceptional guest stars: from Rod Stewart to Bryan Adams, from Jamie Cullum to Tyson Fury.
