The Cabuçu Nucleus of Cantareira Park was closed by the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil) of the State of São Paulo, on the afternoon of this Thursday (5), due to fire outbreaks in the municipalities of Guarulhos, Mairiporã and in the capital.
The government’s crisis cabinet ordered a helicopter to be deployed to drop water, and the fire department has already begun fighting the flames this afternoon. The teams are mobilized to protect the preservation areas.
According to the state’s Civil Defense, the number of conservation units closed due to fire risk has reached 81. The region is being continuously monitored with thermal drones and ground teams.
On Tuesday afternoon (3), Itapetinga State Park, in the municipality of Atibaia, Administrative Region of Campinas, also registered fire outbreaks. Teams from the Forestry Foundation (FF) are working to fight the fire with aerial support.
The decision taken by the government of São Paulo will keep the Cabuçu Nucleus conservation unit closed until September 12, with the possibility of change depending on weather conditions and associated risks.
During this period, the Forestry Foundation teams must be fully mobilized, focusing on prevention actions, territorial monitoring and fire fighting, in addition to providing support to neighboring communities, said Civil Defense.
With the number of personnel to combat fires in the state increased, the action has 15 new teams working in the Conservation Units, in addition to the 19 already existing. The number of civilian firefighters increased by almost 80% to 102 professionals.
The teams have 15 4×4 vehicles, equipped with water pumps with a capacity of 600 liters and attached hose, in addition to new fire control equipment.
