Canton Peruvian & Chinese Food brings its chifa cuisine to São Paulo

The Peruvian chef and businessman Marco Espinoza opened last week the Canton Peruvian & Chinese Food, its Peruvian cuisine restaurant with a strong Chinese influence.

The corner house, in the neighborhood of Pompeia, draws attention with its red lamps, red wallpaper with beautiful designs and decoration that highlights typical elements of Chinese culture, such as lucky cats, colorful umbrellas and dragon heads, which transmit luck in the millennium china culture. The objects came directly from Peru to decorate the new venture.

With some tables on the sidewalk and a small and cozy indoor room, with an open kitchen and a beautiful bar right away, the tip is to go with the family or a group of friends to try a little of everything, as the portions are plentiful.

On the menu, options from gastronomia chifa, very popular in Peru, which mixes Peruvian and Chinese ingredients, techniques and dishes.

To start, the fried Wontons – stuffed with chicken and pork with a Cantonese touch and tamarind sauce (R$22 – 6un/ R$38 – 12un); Spring meat rolls – fried rolls stuffed with meat and vegetables, accompanied by tamarind sauce (R$33 – 4un); Siu May – steamed stuffed with pork and shrimp accompanied by peach hoisin sauce (R$44 – 4un); and Peking Duck Special – half roasted duck with soy sauce and honey, accompanied by mandarin pancakes, cucumber salad with garlic sauce and sirracha mayonnaise (R$178). The duck, despite being in the starters, is well served and works as a main dish.

In the Chaufas item, the classic fried rice, five flavors: Chicken Classic – wok fried rice with chicken, egg, vegetables and a Cantonese touch (R$ 46); Shrimp – wok fried rice with shrimp, egg, vegetables and a touch of pepper (R$61); Rost Beff – wok fried rice with roast beef, mushrooms, egg and vegetables (BRL 61); and Vegan chaufa – wok fried rice with vegetables, tonku mushrooms and peanuts (R$47).

In addition to rice, the menu has options of noodles made in the wok and also special dishes like the Kamlu wontón – boneless chicken, roast pork, shrimp, quail egg, pineapple, peach and vegetables wok in tamarind sauce over fried wontons, accompanied by Canton fried rice (R$59); Tausi octopusoctopus wok with vegetables and Cantonese sauce based on tausí and sichuan chili, accompanied by rustic French fries and five flavor pickles (R$98); and Shrimp Curry – shrimp with vegetables and a spicy curry sauce, accompanied by pineapple rice and peanuts (R$94).

Sweetening the menu, Vanila Ice Bao – fried bao stuffed with vanilla ice cream, white chocolate cream, mango and lychee (R$29)
