Caoa Chery will temporarily suspend the activities of the factory in Jacareí (SP), where it assembles SUVs and sedans, because of the lack of electronic components that has been compromising the production of the automotive industry for a year.
The stoppage will begin on March 12, when employees in the production area will have their contracts suspended, the so-called ‘layoff’, lasting a month and a half.
In a note, the automaker informs that the measure aims to adjust the stocks of parts of the unit in the interior of São Paulo, whose supply was compromised by the effects of the Ômicron variant of Covid-19. It also communicates that it will take advantage of the period of inactive lines to adapt the factory to the production of new models.
According to the region’s metalworkers’ union, the layoff of about 450 workers in the factory’s productive sector was announced this Thursday (24), due to the global shortage of chips.
An assembly of workers to deal with the temporary removal of workers is scheduled to take place this Friday (25) at the entrance of the first shift. The union’s demand is for an agreement with a forecast of job stability during and after the layoff.
