The city of São Paulo identified the first case of subvariant BA.2, variation of Ômicron.
The case was confirmed this Monday (7) by the Municipal Health Department (SMS).
The sequencing was performed in the examination of a resident of Santo André, who uses health equipment in the capital of São Paulo, and was collected on January 28.
He informs that he has not traveled and has mild symptoms.
After confirmation of the exam, SMS sent an epidemiological surveillance team to obtain more information from the patient and provide the necessary guidance to the citizen – who is isolated.
The patient has two doses of vaccination for Covid-19, the first on August 15 and the second on November 26, and is still not able to receive the booster dose, according to a survey carried out by the Health Surveillance Coordination (Covisa) .
Other cases of BA.2 underlining in the state
In addition to the case in São Paulo, the São Paulo State Department confirmed two other cases of the subvariant in the state. The folder reported that “the samples analyzed with the confirmations were verified in Sorocaba and Guarulhos”.
According to a note from the secretary, the measures already known to the population are still crucial to combat the coronavirus pandemic: use of a mask, which is still mandatory in SP; hand hygiene (with soap and water or gel alcohol); social distancing; and vaccination against Covid-19.
