ABS and Capital Ship Management (“Capital”) have signed a landmark agreement to adopt the industry-leading ABS digitization and carbonation platform, in support of Capital’s sustainability strategy.
ABS My Digital Fleet is the only customizable risk management platform that seamlessly integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) data for sustainable operations and operational risk reduction. Environmental data provides an insight into the impact of day-to-day decisions on a ship’s carbon footprint and identifies improvement options for a sustainable fleet. This operational data provides reliable knowledge for improving fuel efficiency, reducing carbon footprint and optimizing ship performance.
“We are proud to be able to support Capital on its journey to sustainability. My Digital Fleet is designed to support forward-looking shipowners and operators, such as Capital, in meeting their emission targets. through advanced analysis, the platform provides unprecedented levels of detail for the environmental and operational performance of an individual ship or fleet, enabling precautionary decisions to reduce the impact of CEO and President of ABS Digital Solutions LLC.
“At Capital, we seek to use digital technologies in all aspects of our operations to increase competitiveness, improve operational efficiency and achieve carbon emission targets. We are very pleased to implement the digitization and carbonation platform. My Digital Fleet of ABS “, said Nikolaos Vaporis, Technical Director of Capital.
The deal is Capital’s latest investment to carbonize its operations, following the recent announcement of ABS information security and the recognition of investments in carbonation technologies in its new orders for medium-sized tankers.
Capital and Lloyd’s Register investigate the use of biofuels in a pilot phase
At the same time, Capital and Lloyd’s Register (LR) will conduct biofuel use trials as part of a new pilot project, supporting low- to zero-carbon shipping research, in line with IMO targets for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The test concerns the use of a marine fuel-biofuel mixture in the 300,000 tonne DWT crude oil tanker “Apollonas” operated by Capital.
As part of the research project, the LR Maritime Performance Services (MPS) team will undertake the risk assessment of the operational impact of biofuels, direct the development, implementation and calculation of the emission monitoring program and in addition carry out the overall verification of the results from an independent (third party) body. LR Marine Fuel Analysis Service (FOBAS) will also evaluate and characterize biofuels to cover all aspects of the new fuel management.
Theodosis Stamatellos, Regional Director of Lloyd’s Register, said: “There is a strong interest in the shipping industry to learn more about the use of biofuels, as we ‘navigate’ the IMO GHG aspirations, and especially the prospect of a reduction emissions, compatibility with existing refueling technologies and associated costs We are extremely pleased to work with Capital on this pilot project to test the safe use of biofuels in shipping. and utilize unparalleled know-how and analytical capabilities in fuel testing to advance industry-wide research into these fuels and low- to zero-carbon technologies. ”
Nikolaos Vaporis, Technical Director of Capital Ship Management said: “We support research into various carbonation solutions, such as the use of biofuels in our commitment to help reduce the industry’s carbon footprint, in line with the IMO program. “We are very pleased to be involved in this research project, as it is an opportunity to work with LR and remain at the forefront of environmental innovation.”
