Cryptocurrency platform Blockchain.com completed another round of funding, after which its capitalization more than doubled – from $5.2 to $14 billion.
According to Bloomberg, the new funding round, which has not yet been publicly confirmed by Blockchain.com, increased the company’s capitalization from $5.2 billion to $14 billion. The total amount of funds raised has not yet been reported.
The funding round was led by British investment management firm Baillie Gifford. Back in April last year, Baillie Gifford invested $100 million in Blockchain.com, which at the time was the largest investment ever made in the company. The global venture company Lightspeed Ventures also took part in the fundraising.
Blockchain.com was founded in 2011 as a platform where users can buy and store digital currencies. The firm raised $300 million in 2021. The platform now has 37 million users holding 82 million wallets in total, and the total transaction value on the platform exceeds $1 trillion.
Blockchain.com has previously accused the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of avoiding innovation and focusing on risk management. The head of the company, Peter Smith, said that due to the actions of the regulator, the UK is far behind the global financial agenda and is not actively developing in this direction.
Yesterday it became known that the FCA extended the registration period for companies that filed an appeal against the backdrop of a massive relocation of the cryptocurrency business. Due to the tightening of the regulator’s policy, many firms withdrew their applications and decided to move their business to another location. Among them are Blockchain.com, B2C2 and Wirex.
