Chamber reimbursed BRL 21.6 million in medical expenses to deputies since 2019

The Chamber of Deputies reimbursed BRL 21.6 million in medical expenses to federal deputies who opted for private health services, between 2019 and July 2022, despite having their own department available for care and health insurance. The data were obtained by the non-profit organization Ranking dos Politicos from the Legislative House.

Deputies and their legal dependents are entitled to care at the Chamber’s Medical Department and access to the House’s health care program (Pró-Saúde), the same offered to civil servants. To join, deputies must pay a monthly fee of R$ 630 and a 25% share on the amount of medical expenses incurred, following the table adopted by the agreement, according to the Chamber’s portal.

But, if they prefer to use the private network, they can request reimbursement of medical, hospital and dental expenses. Refunds are not given to dependents.

Reimbursement requests are evaluated by members of the Board of Directors of the Chamber and subject to budget availability.
