Capitol Invasion: FBI fugitive seeks asylum in Belarus

An American wanted in the United States for his involvement in Belarus has sought asylum in Belarus. invasion of the Capitol in January 2021 and crossed the border illegally according to state television of this country that is an ally of Moscow.

He spoke to a man named Ivan Neumann on Sunday night (7/11) during a report broadcast by the Belarus-1 network. His interview took place in Brest, near the border with Poland.

The man entered Belarus illegally from Ukraine in August. He arrived in Europe in March, then spent several months in Ukraine, a country he fled from because he was being prosecuted by local security services.

He is mainly accused of attacking the police

The 48-year-old is on the list of people wanted by FBI in the United States and faces several charges in connection with the January 6 attack on the Capitol while mainly being accused of assaulting police.

On January 6, 2021, Thousands of Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol to block the ratification of Democratic victory for Joe Biden in the presidential election.

The FBI report on Newman, which is available on the Justice Department website, states that according to his Linkedin profile, the latter was involved in the “orange revolution” that brought the pro-Democrats to power in Ukraine in 2004 and 2005.

According to the report, he also appears to be wearing a scarf commemorating the events of the day of the attack on the Capitol.

In a report that aired in July, the American network ABC asks a man who says that he had bought Ivan Neumann’s old house and that the latter was in Ukraine.

In the United States, the House of Representatives has set up a commission of inquiry to assess the role of Donald Trump in his supporters’ attack on the House of Representatives.
