Capitol police warn of a threat from a “paramilitary group” tomorrow

The U.S. Capitol Police Force has said it is ready to respond to “any threat”, warning that there is a “possible plan by an unknown paramilitary group” to attack tomorrow, Thursday, according to the APE.

The Capitol had become the target of an attack by supporters of former President Donald Trump on January 6. In that invasion, 5 people were killed.

“We have received information about a possible plan by an unknown paramilitary group to storm the Capitol by force on March 4,” police said in a statement, adding that it was “aware and prepared for any possible threat.” He added that he was cooperating with local, state and federal services “to stop the threats” against the Capitol.

Some conspiracy theorists, such as those of the QAnon movement, believe that President Donald Trump, the loser in the November 3 presidential election, will be sworn in for a second term on March 4.

The Capitol police in their announcement notes that they have already made “significant upgrades” of the security of the building where the Senate and the House of Representatives are housed. It is not clear, however, whether these upgrades were made on the occasion of the recent threat or whether they include measures already implemented in the previous days after 6 January.
