At a press conference on Thursday (3), the charge d’affaires of the Ukrainian embassy, Anatoliy Tkach, said that Russian troops were confused about Moscow’s objective with the military action in neighboring territory, and that “all of them say the same thing, they don’t know what they are doing in Ukraine”.
The Ukrainian representative in Brazil stated that the country consolidated testimonies of Russian soldiers who were captured during the invasion of the Eastern European country.
According to Anatoliy, worrying reports have been found that point out that the Russians have deployed a missile system to border towns, allegedly aimed at their own territory with the aim of a false accusation against Ukraine.
During the press conference, the diplomat stated that the Russian occupiers are demoralized and surrendering to beg for food, attributing this to the heroism of the defenders, the military and also the civilians who are armed and helping to arrest enemy soldiers.
The chargé d’affaires said that new sanctions are already being applied against Russia, because, according to him, “Russia has become toxic” and the Russians have become “synonymous with barbarity”.
On this front, he recalled the vote of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), which took place this Wednesday (2), condemning the acts of aggression by Russia against Ukraine.
Tkach also commented that the humanitarian situation in the country is precarious due to mass bombings in cities and residential neighborhoods. In a tone of gratitude, he mentioned the suspension of maintenance services and the sale of defenses to Russia by Embraer, and also the sending of aid by the Brazilian government through a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane.
“It is good news that the government of Brazil has decided to send an 11,000-ton humanitarian aid shipment on March 7. We are very grateful for this decision,” he commented.
In addition, Tkach analyzed the UN data, which already add up to more than one million Ukrainian refugees and thousands of internally displaced people within the country. Despite this, the representative said that, so far, “the volume of Ukrainians interested in coming to Brazil is not large”.
