A car exploded on the morning of this Tuesday (26) while it was being supplied with Natural Vehicular Gas (CNG) at a gas station in the north of Rio de Janeiro. A man injured in the episode is in a serious condition. A woman was also hit.
Security cameras recorded the moment of the explosion. The two victims were outside the vehicle. The man was checking something in the trunk and was thrown on the impact.
According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), he was taken to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital and is in serious condition.
The woman was attended by the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital and her condition is stable. In the images, after the explosion, she walks out with her hands on her face amid the wreckage.
The car was completely destroyed. The station’s structure was also impacted, but no gas station attendant was affected. Municipal inspectors traveled to the site to organize traffic.
According to the Civil Police, an investigative procedure has been opened. Experts were at the scene and witnesses are being heard. The images recorded by the security camera are also analyzed. Among other things, the state of conservation of the vehicle’s gas cylinder will be investigated.
Sought by Agência Brasil, the concessionaire Naturgy informed that it is only responsible for the supply of CNG. The State Environmental Institute (Inea) was also contacted and stated that the gas station license is granted by the city hall.
