A large amount of money was found in the trunk of a car in the Renascença neighborhood, in São Luís, capital of Maranhão, on Tuesday (30).
This Thursday (1st), the State Secretariat for Public Security of Maranhão informed the CNN that the Civil Police finished counting the money using a banknote counting machine.
According to the department, the total amount seized by the police was R$1,109,350.00. The money will be deposited into a court account linked to the investigation.
The SSP also informs that the Civil Police hashas already heard witnesses and continues to investigate the case to determine the origin of the money.
The owner of the vehicle, identified as Carlos Augusto Diniz da Costa, appeared at the Police Station on Tuesday night (30), accompanied by a lawyer, but remained silent.
The discovery of the car with the bills was made after residents of the region reported an abandoned vehicle to the Military Police.
