Caracas, the kitten from Rome tied to the tracks and killed by a moving train: “We will not rest until there is justice”

“How can you do that? You are disgusting, you filthy beings that inhabit this planet. I will haunt you in your dreams, while you eat, while you try to live your life, my shadow will not give you peace, murderers. You do not know what you have done. And you have no idea what will come back to you. This is my promise.”

Miro, the protagonist of our Non-binary podcasthe shouts it from his Instagram profile: Caracas, that little red kitten, who was tied to the tracks of the Tuscolana station in Rome, and who died crushed by a moving train, he knew him well, she was “his human mother”, even if in the Mandrione neighborhood, between San Giovanni and Pigneto, everyone knew who she was, so much so that a torchlight procession was organized “against all the violence that we are seeing in recent times on these poor innocent animals”. Caracas was 1 year and three months old.

“I took him off the tracks, the little that was left, with his mouth open in a scream tied by that plastic rope,” says Miro in despair, “I lost days going from police station to be able to make the statement without any kind of support. Now, however, things are moving and we hope to soon be able to identify the killers. I put all my energy into it and not only because of what happened in Caracas: events like this are terrifying, they spread fear. Whoever kills an animal like this can do many other horrible things and knowing that these people are at large is not reassuring.”

Many animals are starting to be killed violently and gratuitously, as if it were nothing, as if it were a cruel outburst: it happened, again in Rome, to Giorgio, the dog killed in June by stabbings by two brothers aged 44 and 46 who then threw the carcass into a ditch of a stream near the Ponte Galeria station.

And so, to shout ENOUGH, on Wednesday 17 July at 7pm in via Deruta, at the entrance to Villa Lais, a large group will gather to march and ask for justice and humanity.

Do you remember it? little goatkicked to death by a group of newly eighteen-year-olds in a farmhouse in Anagni, who, laughing, even filmed the killing? And the hedgehog killed in the parking lot of Porto Torres, in Sardinia, beaten with clubs until it was decapitated?

These are not sadistic games, they are crimes, punishable by law: «The crime of animalicide exists: it is regulated by theArticle 544 bis of the penal code which provides for a prison sentence of four months to two years for anyone who causes the death of an animal with cruelty and without necessity”, explains Maria Silvia D’Alessandrohead of the legal office of the Italian League for the Defense of Animals and the Environment (LEIDAA): «TheArticle 544 bis considers the animal no longer as a “thing” or “good”, but worthy of protection – today also recognized by article 9 of the constitution – as a sentient being”.

Because yes, even the murderers in Caracas should know this: kittens feel pain, yes, they are sentient beings.
