Cardamom is the superfood that burns fat and fights inflammation

Has a warm herbaceous flavour and an aroma that stirs eucalyptus, mint And pepper. This is why cardamom seeds have been used for centuries to perfume drinks and foods but also to produce fine perfumes. Already used in oriental medicine, cardamom also reveals highly beneficial properties for health and diet, to the point of being included in the list of precious “superfoods”.

A new confirmation comes from a new study by Texas A&M AgriLife, published in theInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences e with an explanatory title: Cardamom seed intake increases energy expenditure and reduces fat mass in mice by modulating neural circuits regulating adipose tissue lipolysis and mitochondrial oxidative metabolism in liver and skeletal muscle.

Research has found that the consumption of cardamom affects theincreased appetitethe fat loss and the reduction of inflammation. The principal investigator of the study, Luis Cisneros-Zevallos of the Department of horticultural sciences at the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, explained how the results clearly show that cardamom can be a healthy dietary choice and that its consumption can help maintain a normal body weight by reducing fat.

“Cardamom is a spice that is little known in the West but very common in other parts of the world,” Cisneros-Zevallos told the site. Medical News. “What we found is that this little spice can burn calories and maintain body weight by increasing appetite and food consumption.”

The study was conducted on animals, inserting various doses of cardamom seeds regularly in their diet. The researchers found that cardamom increased appetite and energy expenditure simultaneously reduced fat mass. The research also served to identify precise dosages for humans: at least 77 milligrams of bioactive cardamom for an adult weighing approximately 60 kga dose that can be obtained by consuming 8-10 cardamom pods every day.

But there’s more. The study confirmed that cardamom also modulates the neural circuits that regulate the lipolysis of adipose tissue and the Mitochondrial oxidative metabolism in liver and skeletal muscle, while other related studies have shown that it has anti-inflammatory properties. The research conducted by Cisneros-Zevallos, in collaboration with the Salvador Zubiran National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition in Mexico City, reveals that cardamom can reduce low-grade inflammation which can lead to chronic inflammation and the development of a number of diseases.

“Our team has discovered an incredible opportunity to use cardamom to preserve overall health,” she said. «Cardamom seeds, with this new feature, can be used in various sectors, including sports, functional foods and food supplements, as well as to promote the production of healthier foods».
