Smart contracts can now be launched on the Cardano blockchain in the Alonzo version. The development team reported this in a regular YouTube video review.
Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), behind the Cardano Project (ADA), regularly publishes such reviews. Tim Harrison, Director of Marketing and Communications at IOHK, spoke with Dimitris Poulopoulos. Poulopoulos, who is responsible for deploying the update, said that the developers are already “reaching out to the Alonzo node.” The message that the first smart contract has been successfully launched on the Alonzo network also appeared on the official twitter of the IOHK team.

“You can create a primitive smart contract and transfer it to the registry. The first smart contract written in our network, ”he explained and added:“ Something as simple as an operation that returns “Hello, world” or a confirmation of a payment made. […] In general, our Alonzo is now working with smart contracts. ”
The video further states that the team passed this milestone in the middle of the Alonzo Blue phase. This is the first phase of the deployment of the Alonzo version, initiated on May 27th. After the launch of the test network, ADA has risen in price by 30%.
Development manager Nigel Hemsley explained that as soon as there is a two-way communication between the registry and external applications, you can move on to the next stage.
The developers expect to launch it in July. However, for this, the project needs partners and the first testers who can write the simplest scripts like “Hello, world” and run them on the blockchain. Several teams are already doing this, including Altlabs, Eleks, Mlabs, Obsidian.
“As soon as they confirm that they can send, confirm and execute their applications on the blockchain, then that’s it, we are ready to move to White,” the video says.
Smart contracts go to the sky
While the Alonzo developers are walking along their roadmap, Ethereum (ETH) is headed towards the stars in the literal sense. US aerospace company SpaceChain, a member of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, has delivered an Ethereum node to the International Space Station (ISS).

In a press release published on June 4, it is explained that smart contracts have become more efficient due to the security and remoteness of space infrastructure. Ethereum, in turn, gained independence “from centralized ground servers.”
