Care is needed to avoid a new wave in Brazil, says doctor

Despite advances in vaccination in Brazil, measures such as the use of masks must be maintained so that a new wave of Covid-19 is avoided in Brazil, said Ricardo Petraco, a cardiologist at Imperial College London, in an interview with CNN this Thursday (25).

“(…) We have to maintain rationality, even with the high proportion of the vaccinated population, keep our distance and wear a mask when necessary inside closed spaces. And don’t do things that aren’t entirely necessary,” he said.

With the vaccination of 100% of the adult population of the city of São Paulo, the release of the use of masks in open environments in the city of São Paulo is already being considered. Petraco said he was in favor of the measure.

“I think (not wearing) masks outdoors is safe, it always has been. We’ve never had a bigger problem doing this here. Of course, as long as it’s not an agglomeration, which even in open environments is dangerous,” he said.

Vaccination in Brazil

The doctor celebrated the advance of vaccination in Brazil, and highlighted the population’s commitment to the immunization campaign.

“(…) Even with the frustrated attempt by some to sell false news about the risks of vaccines, it is great to see that the population is getting vaccinated. And we just hope that everything works out the way we want, that the disease is controlled. And, perhaps, in the spring of next year, we will start thinking about the third dose”, concluded the doctor.
