A shipment of US security assistance to Ukraine will arrive in Europe within the next 24 hours, a top US defense official said on Friday.
“We will continue to send resources to Ukraine as quickly and as much as we can,” the official said. “The US is also working to coordinate the sending of security assistance shipments from other contributing nations to Ukraine,” he added.
“It’s not just us. Another 14 nations are also providing – on a bilateral basis – resources to Ukraine. We are helping to coordinate this,” the official said.
According to the official, the country works to get what the country would need most. “Largely now, air defense and anti-armor in terms of munitions,” the official added.
Against one, against all
Also on Friday, US Vice President Kamala Harris called the US commitment to defend NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) members a “battleship” in comments during her trip to Eastern Europe. Dreadnought or battleship is an armored, impenetrable, resistant structure.
“We take our role and the relationships we have within the NATO alliance very seriously,” Harris told a joint news conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. “We take it seriously and are prepared to act on the words we speak when we say that an attack on one is an attack on all.”
“We are steadfast in our commitment,” she continued. “When I say it and we say it over and over again, President Joe Biden says, ‘We will defend every inch of NATO territory.
The US vice president said responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine means reaffirming NATO’s commitment. “We are confident that the work to be done in response to Vladimir Putin’s war includes staying strong within the alliance to support the needs of our partners,” she said.
