Carl Weathers, from “Rocky” and “The Mandalorian”, dies at age 76

Actor Carl Weathers, known for his participation in “Rocky” and series such as “The Mandalorian”, has died at the age of 76. The information was released this Friday (02).

According to his manager Matt Luber, Weathers died “peacefully at home” on Thursday night (01). However, no cause of death was released.

“Carl was an extraordinary human being who lived an extraordinary life,” the family said in a statement sent to CNN . “With his contributions to film, television, arts and sports, he left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”

Carl Weathers was actually an American football player. He had never boxed when he auditioned to play Apollo Creed in “Rocky.” He won the role in the Oscar-winning film and in the next three sequels.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter In 2015, Weathers recalled auditioning with Stallone, who he thought was the screenwriter and not the lead actor. According to him, the reading wasn't good: “I kind of blurted out, 'I'd do better if you guys gave me a real actor to read the scene'.”

The character was inspired by Muhammed Ali, whom Weathers met after the film.

After “Rocky,” Carl Weathers got exposure in a series of roles that capitalized on his imposing physicality, such as 1987’s “Predator.” The following year, he starred as a Detroit police officer in “Action Jackson.”

Carl Weathers' other roles include Adam Sandler's “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”; “In the Heat of The Night; the “Arrested Development” series and the English dub of “Toy Story” as the toy army characters.

More recently, Weathers had an important supporting role in the series “The Mandalorian”, from the “Star Wars” universe. He even received an Emmy nomination, the main award in the world of television. Weathers also directed one of the series' episodes.

The actor has also directed episodes of several TV series, including “Chicago Med,” “Law & Order” and “Hawaii Five-O.”

Born in New Orleans, Weathers played football at the University of San Diego and played professionally with the Oakland Raiders in the Canadian Football League.

In the 1970s, Carl Weathers gave up football and began pursuing his dream of becoming an actor.

Weathers was married three times and leaves two children.
