Carlo celebrates 100 years of Barbour sustainability

Carlo celebrated a century of sustainability from Barbour with a visit to the factory in South Shields where the famous ones are produced wax jacket. In fact, the brand quickly introduced the re-waxing project for jackets to lengthen their life cycle. On this occasion, the Prince of Wales was able to see the official documents that testify to the brand’s ancient commitment: the waxing and repair service was mentioned in the catalog for the first time in 1921.

If at one time this practice was not usual at least on a large scale, since the debate on a responsible consumption even in luxury it has become more heated, the number of people who decide to give their clothes more than a chance is growing exponentially. For Barbour alone, there is talk of over 60 thousand jackets sent for re-waxing every year globally.

A school case is represented by the queen. Elizabeth is so attached to her Barbour that when she sent it to the company for the usual maintenance, despite having received a brand new one from the company as a gift for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee, she insisted on having her old jacket back. .

Of the remains between the royals and the Barbour the relationship is so well known that it even ended up The Crown. Thanks to popular Netflix series, the brand has seen a surge in sales also in the market of second hand. The company is the official supplier of royal family since 1974 when Filippo granted the first Royal Warrant. This was followed by a second one in 1982 at the hands of his sovereign wife and the third one arrived on the initiative of Carlo in 1987.

The Prince of Wales has always loved fixing his clothes. A photo of him in a completely patched country jacket is shot among aficionados of the royal family in a way that perhaps mere mortals would never dare to show in public.

The funny thing is that if once his frugality took on a negative meaning, now the heir to the British throne has become a sort of testimonial of the sustainable fashion and its mending are more cool that never. It must be admitted, at least on this Carlo can boast of having seen us for a long time.
