Carlo Conti, Gerry Scotti and that selfie in Florence

Accustomed as we are to conceiving television faces inside impassable watertight bulkheads, as if they could not speak to the “enemy” for fear of offending their company, it is a relief that some of them break the ceremony without getting too much trouble. This is the case of two warm and reassuring faces of the small screen such as Carlo Conti and Gerry Scotti, for a long time rivals in the early evening range but also great friends in life. With Florence’s Ponte Vecchio in the background, the two conductors pose smiling and relaxed between sunglasses and light-colored shirts, demonstrating that, after all, those walls between the nets are not as waterproof as one might imagine.

It is something that has to do with a kind of insurmountable between companies, as if they were unable to cooperate. While in America the products of the opposing networks – as well as their faces – are not only cited, but also praised and even parodied, it is as if everyone in Italy were at the mercy of a sort of awe that could lead the conductors to fear saying the name of a colleague who wears another jacket for fear of who knows what backlash. The friendship between Carlo Conti and Gerry Scotti shows, however, that synergies are not only possible, but also necessaryespecially in this war between the poor in which no one seems to understand that it is precisely thanks to the initiation of new grafts that it is possible to create something beautiful and new – think, for example, of the closure of Mediaset faces at the Sanremo court.

In this ocean of the unspoken and unspoken, we said, there are very few artists who allow themselves the luxury of citing the counterpart without fear of repercussions from the agents and, above all, from the publisher. This is the case, for example, of Maria De Filippi, a professional who has never had a problem talking about the competition without resorting to that boring form that sees the conductors scrambling in the mirrors during interviews doing everything to not mention the name of the opposing program. Why is television still so inhibited in 2022 when it comes to alliances? And why is it so rare to see two savvy people like Carlo Conti and Gerry Scotti smile in favor of the camera without fear of “repercussions”? Maybe it’s worth thinking about it. And to think that the Telegatti and the Television Regia Award have also been taken away from us, the only occasions in which it was possible to see Rai and Mediaset faces in the same room without anyone being indignant or scandalized.
