Carlo, the “green” prince who fears for the future of baby George

The principe Carlo, as is well known, he is a royal “green” ahead of everyone: his first environmentalist discourse dates back to 50 years ago. Passing on his commitment to his children has always been a priority for the future king. So much so that in recent days he has publicly praised William for the Earthshot Prize, first global award for the protection of the planet: “I am very proud of my son William for his growing commitment to the environment”.

Now, in view of the Cop26 of Glasgow, the United Nations conference on climate change which will start on October 31st, Carlo is back to talking. In the documentary Cop26: In your hands, the prince, to explain the catastrophe looming over the planet if the powerful and the nabobs of the economy do not decide to reverse the course, he has brought up the eight-year-old grandson George, future king of England. “I’m old enough to have a grandson,” says the Prince of Wales in the film. “Like you, he too is learning like the climate change is causing the big ones storms and floods, the Drought, the fires and the food shortage that we are seeing all over the world ».

Charles, 72, was once accused of naivety for his crusade to defend the planet: who mocked him because he talked to plants, who because they argued the need to return to natural fibers instead of synthetics: “When I was George’s age, people had no idea of the damage we were doing. But when I was a teenager, I began to understand that if we didn’t stop polluting our planet we would deal with it a very dangerous future. That’s why I’ve spent so much time in my life trying to explain to everyone that we must work in a way that makes nature thrive rather than make it suffer».

For Carlo, transmitting his passion for the environment to his grandson George is something more than teaching him to collect garbage or plant trees: to make sure that his future king, and the planet he and billions of others live on, can survive. Charles shared his fears of the world in which his grandson and heir is growing up unfiltered. And he urged everyone to do their part: “We have forgotten that we must give back to nature what we take away from them. Each of us, in this, has a fundamental role ». However the future of each of us “depends on the future of the planet”. Baby George, to whom grandfather Carlo at birth gave a special gift in the name of nature – planted a forest in Balmoral in his honor – got it. And in fact, as father William revealed, at just 8 years old he is already “very annoyed by those who throw garbage on the ground “.
