Six samba schools crossed the Marquês de Sapucaí sambadrome on Sunday (11), the first night of parades by the Rio de Janeiro Special Group.
There were stories on the avenue that ranged from the jaguar's connection with the national culture and the cosmogony of the original peoples to Portuguese tales, including the Yanomami people.
The works were opened by Unidos do Porto da Pedra, champion of the 2023 Gold Series, which had not paraded in the Special Group since 2012. The plot of the São Gonçalo school was based on the book “Lunário Perpétuo”, written in the 14th century, in Spain, by Jerónimo Cortés.
The second to set foot in Sapucaí in 2024, Beija-Flor told the story of Rás Gonguila, a shoeshine boy and doorman who lived in Maceió at the beginning of the 20th century. Passionate about Carnival, he founded Cavaleiro de Montes, one of the main blocks in the capital of Alagoas at the time.
The next school to parade was Salgueiro, which spoke about the Yanomami people with the theme “Hutukara”. The school in the north of Rio told the story of the people who occupy the largest Indigenous Land in Brazil in a manifesto that came out in defense of Brazil's indigenous peoples and defended the preservation of the Amazon.
Grande Rio was the fourth school to parade on Sunday. The plot “Our destiny is to be a jaguar” came from the book “My destiny is to be a jaguar”, by writer Alberto Mussa, to talk about the jaguar in the Tupinambá myth of the creation of the world.
Tijuca was the penultimate school to cross Sapucaí and presented the plot “Um Conto de Fados”. In the parade, the Borel school presented the mysticism and legends that surround the history of Portugal, in addition to showing the Portuguese cultural influence on Brazil.
Closing the first night, Imperatriz Leopoldinense brought the universe of gypsies. The plot “With luck turning to the moon according to the testament of the gypsy Esmeralda” was developed by carnival artist Leandro Vieira and was based on the leaflet “The testament of the gypsy Esmeralda”, by cordelist Leandro Gomes de Barros.
