Portela chose, on Friday (4), the samba-plot that it will take to Marquês de Sapucaí during Carnival 2025, when it will pay homage to singer Milton Nascimento, 81, in its plot. The 101-year-old association is the biggest champion of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, but has not won since 2017.
The musical work was composed by Samir Trindade, Fabrício Sena, Brian Ramos, Paulo Lopita 77, Deiny Leite, Felipe Sena and JP Figueira; and faced two other sambas in the final stage of the internal dispute at the school in the north of Rio de Janeiro.
“Singing will be looking for the path that leads to the sun — A tribute to Milton Nascimento” written by André Rodrigues and Antônio Gonzaga, will mark the first time that the school pays homage to an important character in the history of Brazil who is still alive.
At Carnival 2024, Portela came in fifth place overall, with the plot “Um defeito de cor”, based on the book of the same name by Ana Maria Gonçalves, by the carnival duo Antônio Gonzaga and André Rodrigues.
The work, released in 2006, tells the saga of Kehinde, a black woman who is kidnapped in the Kingdom of Dahomey, now Benin, in Africa, when she was eight years old, and brought to Bahia, where she is enslaved.
In 2025, the blue and white group will be the last school to parade on Carnival Tuesday, when Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Paraíso do Tuiuti and Acadêmicos do Grande Rio also cross Sapucaí.
