According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), the banks will not be open to the public at agencies during the Carnival holiday, on February 28th and March 1st.
As a result, branch service will resume on Ash Wednesday, March 2, with office hours starting at 12:00 pm local time in each state. The closing hours of the branches follow the normal days.
The exception is in places where agencies close before 3 pm. In this case, the start of the service will be anticipated to guarantee a minimum of three hours of operation of the agency.
Febraban’s guidance for customers is the use of digital channels of banks to carry out transfers and bill payments while branches are closed.
Consumer bills — which include water, electricity and telephone — and bills due on February 28 or March 1 can be paid on the 2nd, without adding value. This is because the accounts already have dates adjusted for the holiday calendar.
If the adjustment has not taken place, the association recommends advancing the payment or scheduling it through ATMs, internet banking or telephone service.
In the case of bank slips from customers registered as electronic drawees, payment can be made by Authorized Direct Debit (DDA).
