Carnival date change did not affect samba schools, says Liesa director

After two years without the traditional parades at Marquês de Sapucaí, in Rio de Janeiro, seven samba schools from the Golden Series, access division, inaugurate the return to the avenue this Wednesday (20), at 9 pm.

In an interview with CNNthe marketing director of the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro (Liesa), Gabriel David, stated that the celebration of Carnival outside the traditional date in February did not change the quality of the parades that will be presented by the samba schools.

“We managed to make all this change of date without affecting the samba schools, without affecting the art of the carnival artists that will be presented. Whoever goes to Sapucaí or is watching it on television will see a very high level Carnival”, said David.

The director of Liesa said that the return of Carnival, after two years of a pandemic, represents “our great redemption, the redemption of a society, the return of a joy and happiness that our society needs so much”.

According to him, this year’s parade will feature new stage lighting that is important from an artistic and technical point of view. Regarding the plots of the samba schools, David stated that they will deal with “many current and important issues to be discussed in society”.

The director of Liesa stated that all the boxes for the parade in Sapucaí were sold, and that the stands have 96% of sales made. “Sapucaí will be beautiful, it will be crowded the way we like it and the way we need it” he said.

“It is a feeling of relief, of great happiness that Carnival can continue to bring joy to the entire samba world, to all the people of Rio de Janeiro, to the people of this country and the world”, said Liesa’s marketing director.
