Carnival is not our concern at the moment, says SP Health Secretary

The Health Secretary of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, said this Tuesday (4), in an interview with CNN, that the discussion about Carnival is not the current concern of the São Paulo government.

However, according to Gorinchteyn, the agenda should only include events that can be controlled by people, ruling out street blocks.

“This is a topic that we will discuss later on. We always have news regarding Covid, there is always a new strain circulating, in September we had Delta, in December we had Ômicron. We have time to discuss. The street crowds, those events that make people crowd together without a mask, with a drink in their hand, kissing each other, cannot happen,” Gorinchteyn said.

“If we have to discuss anything, it will be for safe and controlled events. With access with testing and vaccination billing, and in that way we will evaluate. That’s not off the radar, but at the moment it’s not our concern,” he continued.

According to Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), the samba school parades and the number of Carnival dances can be carried out by charging a vaccination passport and/or RT-PCR tests to detect the coronavirus.

In Bahia, Governor Rui Costa (PT), declared in an interview with CNN, on December 23, that “it would be irresponsible to hold the event”. According to the head of the Bahian Executive, there will be a meeting with the mayors of the state to debate what measures can be taken so that the event can take place in a reduced manner.
