Anyone who wants to accompany the samba school parades in Rio de Janeiro will have to present proof of vaccination against Covid-19. After postponing the events to the Tiradentes holiday because of the pandemic, the city hall confirmed that a passport will be required for admission to parade venues, such as Marquês de Sapucaí.
In addition to the sambadrome, where the samba schools of the Ouro Series (20 and 21) and the schools of the Special Group (22 and 23) parade, the document will also be charged for admission to Terreirão do Samba, in the center, and for those who are watch the parades at Intendente Magalhães, in the north zone.
“During the technical tests, Liesa [Liga Independente das Escolas de Samba do Rio de Janeiro] I was already charging for the vaccination passport and it worked very well. We hope it will also work during the parades”, said Rodrigo Prado, municipal secretary of health.
In a press conference this Thursday (18), representatives of the municipal public authorities also stated that the parades of street blocks are not authorized, and that inspection will be carried out by agents, in addition to monitoring by the cameras of the Rio Operations Center. (COLOR).
“The traditional blocks have already expressed that they will not parade in the streets. Public Order will be focused on the functioning of the city, on the flow of traffic, on the prevention of riots (…) to make the city run smoothly,” said Brenno Carnevale, Secretary of Public Order.
In order to avoid major traffic disorders, the municipality decreed an optional point on Wednesday (20) and Friday (22), and recommended that drivers avoid the surroundings of the Marquês de Sapucaí on these days.
From Monday (18/04), the floats will move and, according to the forecast, there should be impacts in the region around the Novo Rio Rodoviária, in addition to Avenida Brasil.

Starting at 5 am on Wednesday (20), the Metro service will operate uninterruptedly until 11 pm on Sunday (24). In the parades of the champions (30), the service will be without interruption from 5:00 am on the 30th (Saturday) until 11:00 pm on the 1st (Sunday).
