An unlikely gang of criminals travels back in time to 1943 to steal the Mona Lisa from the French. It is the third chapter, now in the cinema, of the saga We just have the crime, and the band is (more or less) always the same: there are Massimiliano Bruno, the director, Giampaolo Morelli and Marco Giallini, accompanied by Gianmarco Tognazzi, Giulia Bevilacqua, Ilenia Pastorelli, Edoardo Leo. This time, however, the “thieves” travel even further back in time – the title, in fact, is Once upon a time there was crime – and in 1943 they met a new entry: Carolina Crescentini. While fleeing from the Germans with the painting, the three – Moreno, Giuseppe and Renatino (Giallini, Tognazzi and Leo) – are, in fact, forced to take refuge at the home of Adele (Carolina Crescentini), who is actually Moreno’s grandmother as a young man. «It’s a terribly funny film», says the actress, «that I had the privilege of shooting surrounded by friends, I call them the three caciaroni».
Who is Adele?
«A photographer, who is already a revolutionary fact for the 1940s. An independent and strong woman, her husband is in front of her and she has remained at home, barricaded, with her little daughter. She is ready for anything, even to take up the rifle to defend her daughter and her family ».
A story that, in these dramatic days, unfortunately does not refer only to 1943, but to what is happening in Ukraine right now.
“That’s right, it’s absurd to think about when we made the film and the situation we are in now. Ukrainian women are very brave, strong, alone on the border. We have only studied war in Europe in books, but now we are witnessing an entire people experiencing dramatic moments. We must remember, however, that unfortunately it is not the first war that has broken out in recent years. I have been collaborating with UNHCR for some time and I still have vivid memories of Sudan, Yemen, Syria ».
Once upon a time there was crime was it the first set after Covid?
“No, I was lucky enough to be able to work despite the situation. After the first lockdown, thanks to the protocols we are back to shooting. I must say that thank God I can’t really complain, I also spent the second lockdown in the countryside, where with my husband (the musician and singer Francesco Motta, ed) we moved. The rituals of nature saved me ».
What is it that today is back to doing more than before?
“Go to the cinema. I want to be there, send an important signal. We got a little lazy, we got used to watching movies at home, on the sofa, but in the living room it’s another thing. There you are surrounded by an entire community experiencing similar but different emotions with you. I also like to leave the cinema and comment on the film, discuss it. I can’t wait for concerts, which are another fundamental part of my life, to come back more and more ».
As a couple, however, how did you come out of these two years?
«We are safe (laughs, editor’s note). I must say that the campaign has helped us, it has been a complex two years. We were two newlyweds with a thousand things in mind, the world. When it all exploded we had just returned from a trip to Australia and New York, so let’s say we lived on income for a while. I can’t wait to leave again, even without a destination ».
Where has she gone back so far?
“In Europe. With, the first time. the fear of making a mistake in filling out the form and not being able to leave. I want the comparison, the exchange, the thousand crossings, I can’t wait. Also because I am a fan of comparison, I really feel the need. I like to question myself. I’m a boss, maybe I don’t give you satisfaction, but then I think about it, I say to myself “maybe it wasn’t like that, maybe we can find another life” ».
Within the year there will also be the return of Boris, the series.
“I can’t say anything, my mouth is sewn up.”
And what does he feel like afterwards?
«A good film that makes me learn new things, even on a physical level. For my first film, I remember, I swam with dolphins, then for other jobs I learned to ride, I trained with stunt-men. I would also like a film that forces me to study, a language or philosophy. I’m ready”.
