Caroline Ellison may have her sentence reduced

Lawyers for former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison file lawsuit memorandum with sentencing recommendations for their client. They believe that a prison sentence would be unnecessary and asked that she be released under supervision.

“Allison does not pose a risk of recidivism or public safety. Therefore, an expression of leniency in recognition of her early discovery of the crimes, her full acceptance of responsibility for them, and, most importantly, her extensive cooperation with the government, would promote respect for the law,” the defense argued.

The lawyers asked that Allison be released under the supervision of the Department of Probation for three years, taking into account the time she has already spent in custody. In that case, she would be assigned an inspector to ensure that she complies with the terms of her sentence.

In addition to the plea for leniency, the memo included letters and appeals of support from the former Alameda Research CEO. In particular, the exchange’s new CEO, John J. Ray III, said her assistance in recovering the funds had been helpful.

Allison is scheduled to be sentenced on September 24, 2024. She pleaded guilty to all charges, including fraud, in a plea deal with authorities.
