Carrefour recorded a net profit of 1.072 billion euros in 2021, the company said on Wednesday (16).
The result represents an advance of almost 70%, compared to the previous year.
Adjusted earnings per share, meanwhile, rose from 1.26 euros in 2020 to 1.47 euros in 2021, an increase of 17.2%. Total sales stood at 81,245 million euros.
The French group also announced the launch of a new share buyback, in the amount of 750 million euros. In 2021, the value was 700 million euros.
CEO and chairman of the group, Alexandre Bompard, considered that the performance in 2021 was “very strong”, confirming the execution of a strategic plan.
In a note to investors, he highlights Carrefour’s digital initiatives, in addition to market gains in its main operating countries.
“This commercial momentum is reflected in an equally solid financial performance, with sales growth despite a high like-for-like basis, a marked improvement in our operating profit, particularly in France, and a record level of net free cash flow generation.” stated.
