A landslide buried a couple in the neighborhood of Novo Horizonte, in Itabirito, central Minas Gerais, this Saturday afternoon (8). The heavy rains that hit the region caused the collapse of the residence.
According to the Civil Defense of Itabirito, the couple was rescued by the Fire Department and the city’s Municipal Guard. The landslide hit the back of the house where they lived.
When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the husband trying to pull his wife out of the rubble. The victim was trapped by the legs and managed to be rescued from the mud.
The couple was sent to the Emergency Care Unit in Itabirito and is doing well.
According to authorities, the Civil Defense of Itabirito, the Municipal Brigade and the Military Firefighters received at least 50 emergency calls from flood victims in the city. Fortunately, no deaths were registered in the occurrences.
