The third and last episode of the documentary series “Bateau Mouche: The Wreck of Justice” Premiere in the Max streaming service this Tuesday (1st). The work revisits, amid testimonials and recreations of scenes, the real case of the largest maritime tragedy in Brazil. In an interview with CNN the production team commented on the message brought with the recount of the facts.
At the turn from 1988 to 1989 some events promoted to celebrate the new year consisted of luxurious dinners on vessels that roamed Rio Beach.
One of them was promoted at Bateau Mouche IV, a vessel that ended up accommodating more people than he behaved and had several irregularities. Of the 142 gifts, 55 died in the tragedy.
The case has become a symbol of impunity in the country. Decades after the tragedy, none of those involved are arrested and only one family received compensation.
“In a case like this, there is no one left unharmed when we talk about their victims and family,” he said Tatiana Issa director and producer of the documentary, also responsible for “Brutal Pact: The Assassination of Daniella Perez” .
“It is very important for people to understand this. A tragedy of this, there is no history, happy end, everyone gets a trauma,” he added.
According to the professional, the series brings very deep questions to be discussed by society.
“This case is juice in Brazil, where we see greed, corruption, slowness of justice, bribery, not to penalize those responsible,” said Issa. “It’s a story that could fit into so many other stories from current Brazil. It’s important that we debate and I think this series will bring great impact on those who didn’t know the tragedy.”
“She will impact those who heard, who lived that, who was the time and heard, but I didn’t know details. I hope you get important discussions,” concluded the director.
Filmed in Rio de Janeiro, production revisits the impact of wreck means of file images and more than 30 exclusive interviews with survivors, relatives of the victims, lawyers, experts and fishermen involved in the rescue .
“Personally is painful, because we are listening to very sad, devastating stories,” he said Tatiana Issa.
Next to Guto Barra director and producer of production who also acted in “Brutal Pact: Daniella Perez’s murder”, Tatiana also reflected on the challenges of not going beyond the limit in dramatization and bringing a result that was “respectful” to all victims.
“We could not occupy a space of dramatization, something soap opera. So, thus, finding this formula was a very difficult thing. We had an amazing team that collaborated a lot in the whole process. We were very happy with the result, I think we were able to pass the emotion and also the points of importance of the story, but without spectacularize too much, without reaching a place that is dismembered the documentary part,” concluded the director.
