On Tuesday (22), the Rio Grande do Sul Penal Police reported that Edelvânia Wirganovicz, convicted of involvement in the crime, was found dead at the Porto Alegre Women’s Penal Institute. She was serving sentence in semi -open regime. The suspicion is suicide.
In 2019, father, Leandro Boldrini, his stepmother, Graciele Ugulini, her friend Edelvânia Wirganovicz, and Edelvânia’s brother Evandro Wirganovicz were sentenced by the popular jury.
Leandro Boldrini fulfills a sentence in the semi -open regime. Initially, he was sentenced to 33 years and eight months imprisonment for quadruple -qualified homicide – clumsy and futile motives, the use of poison and appeal that made it difficult to defend the victim – ideological falsehood and concealment of corpse. However, in a second jury, held in 2023, he was acquitted of the accusation of concealment of corpse. With this, the penalty was 31 years and eight months in prison.
The first jury was annulled in 2021, when the court considered that the parity of weapons was breached – that is, equal treatment between the parts of the case – during the interrogation of the defendant.
Last year Boldrini was selected for a medical residency place at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). However, in February of this year, the medical record was revoked by the Regional Council of Medicine of Rio Grande do Sul (Crems) and was disconnected from the hospital.

According to information from the Penal Police, she had “signs of hanging and the preliminary evidence point to the inmate herself committed the act.” The Civil Police and the General Institute of Expertise will investigate the cause of death. The General Corregedoria of the Penitentiary System also follows the investigation of the case.
In 2022, Edelvânia began to serve sentence in semi -open regime. The following year, in 2023, it was determined by the court to comply with a sentence on a home regime, with the use of an electronic anklet, due to the lack of vacancies in the prison system.
However, in February this year, a decision of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) ordered her to return to the semi -open. The determination occurred after a complaint from the Rio Grande do Sul Public Prosecution Service (MPRS), which claimed that Edelvânia could not receive the regime benefit for being pending 50% of the sentence.
Evandro Wirganovicz, Edelvânia’s brother, was sentenced to nine years and six months in a semi -open regime for simple homicide and corpse concealment. He served a sentence and is loose.
