Case of transphobia at school in Rio is investigated by the police

The mother of a young trans denounced episodes of transphobia that occurred at the Acre Municipal School, in Rio de Janeiro, practiced by a teacher. The case came to light after registration with the 26th Police Station of All Saints.

In an interview with CNN businesswoman Rosana Sarmento reported that the English teacher refused to call her 13 -year -old daughter by her social name, adopted last year and recorded in all student documents.

The mother points out that the negative represents a serious violation of adolescent rights and a disrespect for her gender identity.

Rosana also recalls that in 2023 the young woman was the target of religious intolerance by the teacher, who would have asked students to pray in class when she found that the student was from Candomblé.

In a statement, the Municipal Secretariat of Education reported that the reported teacher already responds to an inquiry and no longer works at Acre Municipal School.

Also according to Rosana, in the face of the emotional impact caused by these situations, the young woman – who is also in the autistic spectrum – receives private psychological follow -up and has not yet returned to school.

Psychologist Daniele Galvão Farias, who accompanies the adolescent, emphasizes that “respect for gender identity is essential to ensure human dignity and build a more inclusive society, according to the guidelines of the Federal Council of Psychology”.
