Prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya revealed in an interview with CNN What investigations in progress point to the infiltration of organized crime in Brazilian football.
Suspects are the possible participation of the First Capital Command (CCP) in players’ transactions, including international negotiations.
Gakiya pointed out that information obtained through an award -winning denunciation already indicated the influence of the CCP on football, not just limited to Corinthians.
“It was told that there was an influence of the CCP in football, not only in Corinthians, and even prints of conversations that were published by the press, show the participation of organized crime in marketing, selling famous players, including, abroad,” said the prosecutor.
Sports money laundering
According to Gakiya, football is being used as a means for money laundering for organized crime.
“They are also using this means that is football for money laundering,” he explained.
The prosecutor stressed that the investigations are still underway and called for caution in the interpretation of the information, especially in relation to Corinthians.
“The issue of Corinthians and other clubs that may be mentioned, we have an investigation in progress, but it is necessary to have caution, because the Corinthians institution I think is not related to eventual mismanagement that can occur inside,” said Gakiya.
Beyond Football
The prosecutor also mentioned a recent complaint involving a large company that manages the career of funkeiros, indicating that the performance of organized crime extends to other sectors of entertainment.
“Where there is the opportunity to launder money and transform that illicit capital of trafficking, including Cracolândia, in clean money, they will be acting,” he warned.
Gakiya concluded by stating that current discoveries represent only “the tip of the iceberg” and that more irregularities should come to the future.
Investigations continue to be confidential, with the expectation of new developments in the coming months.
