The court of São Paulo extended the temporary arrest of Maicol Santos, the main suspect of killing Vitória Sousa, 20, in Cajamar, Greater São Paulo. The decision was made last Friday (4) and confirmed the CNN by the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) this Tuesday (8).
Maicol has been under arrest since March 8 for suspected qualified homicide, kidnapping and corpse concealment. According to the SSP, “the Civil Police informs that the court upheld, on Friday (4), the request for extension of deadline for the arrest of the plaintiff. The reports requested from the Institute of Criminalistics (IC) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML) are still analyzed by the delegate as soon as the proceeding to clarify the facts and the conclusion of the survey.
Pending exams include DNA analyzes of a strand of hair and bloodstains found in the suspect’s car.
Maicol confessed to the murder to the police during interrogation recorded on video, claiming to have acted alone. However, his defense claims that he was not notified of the statement and that he was coerced to confess the crime. An audio with the alleged coercion denunciation was later recorded and can be used to contest the legality of the confession.
Remember the case
The disappearance and tragic death of Vitória Regina de Sousa, a 17 -year -old girl moved the residents of Cajamar (SP). The story began on February 26, when the girl, after a day at work at a local mall, took the bus back home.
That night Victoria shared text messages with a friend, expressing the fear she felt when she realized she was being followed by two men. Witnesses reported seeing a car with four men following the young woman after she got out of the bus.
After its disappearance, the city came together in incessant searches. Police and family members, supported by various agents, sniffer dogs and drones, sought by victory every corner of the region.
The anguish came to an end on March 5, when Vitória’s body was found in a forest area in Cajamar. The young woman’s body was in advanced state of decomposition and showed signs of violence. The young woman had her head shaved and without her clothes.
The Cajamar Police Station took responsibility for the investigation, working with various hypotheses for the crime. More than 18 people were heard and two vehicles were seized for expertise.
