The number of women victims of intentional bodily injury who reported the crime to the police in the state of São Paulo increased by 26.2%, when comparing the months of September 2022 and 2023.
This is what the statistics on violence against women made available by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) show.
According to the ministry, in September last year, 4,064 cases of bodily harm to women were recorded throughout São Paulo, while this year there were 5,130 episodes in which women were victims of the crime.
In the capital of São Paulo, there were 1,299 incidents of this kind registered in 2022 compared to 1,877 cases in 2023. In the São Paulo macro region (made up of 38 municipalities in the Metropolitan Region) there were 699 cases in September last year, while in the same period this year there were 747.
In the interior of the state, there were 2,066 incidents of intentional bodily harm against women in September last year and 2,506 this year.
There was also an increase in the number of mistreatment reported by women. In 2022, there were 42 cases in the month of September alone, while in the same period in 2023 there were 65, an increase of 54.7%.
