Castro calls for transfer of drug traffickers from Rio de Janeiro to federal prisons

The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), confirmed, this Friday (29), that he requested the transfer of drug traffickers from Rio de Janeiro to maximum security prisons.

The request is one of the measures intended to stifle crime in Complexo da Maré, in the North Zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The government of Rio and the federal government have met since Thursday (28) to draw up a joint action plan.

The initiative came about after the release of a Civil Police investigation that showed, this week, that Complexo da Maré had become a training center for new criminals.

In a press conference held in the presence of the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Cappelli, Castro confirmed that he has already requested the presence of the National Force in Rio.

The governor stated that there will be no occupation of the territory, but the National Force must act in the surrounding area.
