Catalonia will be 10 more days without bars or restaurants

Until next October 23 bars and restaurants will not be able to open. This was agreed by the Government, which also extends the measure to leisure venues, gyms, cultural venues and game rooms, although beauty centers may open with restrictions. The decision was made after verifying that there are many cases of coronavirus patients admitted to hospital ICUs, although the number of infected in Catalonia had dropped.

This is one of the decisions taken by the Generalitat, although, unlike on other occasions, it will have to justify this extension of the closure of the restaurant, hotel, casinos and gaming halls. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) granted a period of two days, which ends this Friday, to the Catalan administration to explain itself despite refusing to suspend precautionary the restrictions imposed, as requested by the Fecasarm employer.

The court considers that it can rule on this closure since the Generalitat did not order the closure following the decree of the state of alarm but in application of the Public Health Law of Catalonia. Fecasarm believes that the closure is an “arbitrary, ineffective, disproportionate, misleading and unnecessary measure” and they urge the Generalitat to relax the current restrictions due to the “irreversible” damage to thousands of families, since compensatory measures such as the Government was committed.

The bosses claim to open the terraces since they consider that the reports of the Public Health Agency of Catalonia recommend acting especially on interior spaces, as they are poorly ventilated spaces. They also add that if the current measures are extended for another week, the losses suffered by the catering sector in 5 weeks in Catalonia will already rise to 2,250 million euros, not counting the damages to suppliers, and those accumulated by the restrictions imposed since August 17, will already exceed 3,500 million euros, while the aid approved by the Generalitat does not cover 3% of these damages caused to the sector.
