Catarinense run over while skateboarding in Ipanema is buried in SC

Maurício Luiz Munarini, 29, from Santa Catarina, was buried this Tuesday morning (24) at the Municipal Cemetery of Paial, in Santa Catarina. He was run over while skateboarding, near Ipanema Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, on Saturday night (21).

THE CNN found out from people close to the family that Maurício lost his balance while practicing the sport and fell on the track when he was hit by a vehicle. The young man died at the scene of the collision.

The Civil Police claims that the case was registered at the 14th DP, in Leblon, as manslaughter.

The driver stopped to help the victim and was not driving under the influence of alcohol. Police officers also found that the driver was not traveling at high speed.

Maurício is from Santa Catarina, from Paial. He is the son of former city councilor Ermes Munarini and the current Secretary of Education for the municipality, Idete Munarini.

The young man had a degree in foreign trade and lived in Rio de Janeiro, where he worked for a multinational company. The body was transported to the skater’s hometown for the celebration of a mass and burial in the presence of friends and family.
