Caterina Balivo has always liked challenges, and it is for this reason that, in recent years, she has chosen to leave the “permanent position” so dear to Zalone to study, to reinvent herself, to understand in which direction to go. And so, after a mini-format dedicated to books broadcast on Instagram during the first lockdown, a delightful podcast entitled I start from no dedicated to all those no who help to grow and improve, to a foray on Radio2 and to the role of judge of de The masked singer on Rai1, the time has also come to devote herself to a brand new project on a network she has never seen before: Tv8. The program is called Who wants to marry my mom?, is produced by Ilaria Dallatana’s Blu Yazmine and sees mothers at the center of the format who, escorted by their children, are looking for a man who listens to them and a love capable of brightening their lives. Leading the story, kicks off Wednesday 22 June in prime time on DTT channel 8 and then available on demand on Skyis, in fact, Caterina Balivo, attentive observer, but also mentor, counselor and, at times, psychologist of mothers and children who, episode by episode, will skim the shortlist of suitors up to the final choice.
«It is a production that I seemed to have always known. It is not easy to stay all day with a team that you immediately perceive as a family ”, says Caterina on the sidelines of the press conference to present the program, a few steps from the Teatro alla Scala. With her hair licked back and a high-necked yellow dress with long sleeves that she says winks a bit at Bridgerton, Balivo shows himself as the television audience is used to knowing her: sunny, expansive, with an always ready answer, but also with a marked sensitivity that he can really pull out when he stops feeling the tension and starts letting go. In addition to underlining the sincerity of the intentions of the format – “There is nothing piloted” – and to regret the microcosm suspended in time in which Who wants to marry my mom? unfolds – for the record, it is Villa Tenchio, near Pavia -, Caterina also takes the opportunity to talk about her personal experience with relationships before finding her corner of paradise in Guido Maria Brera, confessing to being an incurable romantic.
«I love being courted, I’m a bit old style. This is why I sometimes tease my husband by asking him for a message, a note, a gift, but also a simple bouquet of flowers. I buy every ten days “, says Balivo, explaining that I am not particularly used to surprises -” Once she organized a dinner for me with my friends and she still makes me weigh it because in the previous 40 minutes I was complaining because I was tired and didn’t want to go out at home that evening “-. On the possibility of being able to have a say in the possible girlfriend and the possible boyfriend of her two children Cora and Guido Alberto – who, for the record, are still very young – Caterina is decided: “I will have a say. Although, thanks to this program, I realized that the more you say the more the other does the opposite. You have to let it go about girlfriends, while maybe it’s easier to say something about boyfriends “, explains Balivo, who understood that he had met the man of his life when, for the first time, he chose not to run to his friends to tell details of the meeting and of the person, keeping it all to himself.
It remains that, in her first program on Tv8, Caterina brings out a not bad attitude as a psychologist: «It’s normal, after years of interviews with ordinary people and well-known personalities. I think it depends on a certain type of approach, even if I never throw myself into diagnoses ». On the business front, the host could not be more satisfied: «There is great professionalism at Tv8, as well as the desire to marry projects you really believe in, following them from start to finish: a plus for both the conductor and the producer ». When we ask her if working on a project is more liberating than an exclusivity given to a network, the answer comes straight away, enveloped in a veil of profound sincerity: «In a fluid world there is no right thing: if you like something you do it, if you don’t like it you don’t. In recent years I have received many proposals that did not convince me and I said no. Until recently I had a great deal of responsibility in marrying the right project: now I don’t have it anymore ».
