Cathay Pacific Airways’ passenger activity in October remained weak while transport activity continued to strengthen, the Hong Kong airline said.
The airline’s cargo rate for October was 29.6%, higher by 11.4 percentage points compared to the previous year.
It carried 76,430 passengers during the month, almost doubling the number compared to the previous year, but was 97% lower than in October 2019.
Cathay Pacific was operating at about 10% of the pre-pandemic in October 2019.
Although long-haul services were poor, he said short-haul flights serving the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam were a bright spot.
The airline’s cargo rate increased 4% to 82.9%. Cathay carried 136,949 tonnes of goods, a 20% increase over the previous year.
“We expect the results for the second half of the year 2021 to be a significant improvement over the results for the first half of the year 2021, although the total losses for the year 2021 will remain significant,” said Cathay.
