Catholic Church begins process of beatification of Father Cícero de Romão Batista

Father Cícero de Romão Batista will be beatified by the Catholic Church, announced Bishop Magnus Henrique, at the end of the mass of the Diocese of Crato (CE) this Sunday morning (20).

“Pilmers from all over Brazil, it is with great joy that I communicate this historic morning that we have officially received from the Holy See, by order of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, a letter from the Dicastery for the cause of the Saints, dated June 24, 2022 We have received authorization for the opening of the beatification process of Father Cícero Romão Batista who, from now on, will receive the title of Servant of God”, declared the bishop.

The Diocese of Crato described the date as historic due to the authorization of the beatification process of Father Cicero, the “patriarch of the Northeast”, a religious reference in the country and especially for the Northeasterners.

“With the opening [do processo de beatificação]the prophecy made by the priest himself is fulfilled: ‘The Church that persecutes me today, will take up my defense tomorrow”, published the Diocese on its social networks.

In July, the 88th anniversary of the death of Father Cícero was celebrated, with a five-day cycle of pilgrimages in celebration of the religious. The tribute takes place every year and attracts millions of people to Juazeiro do Norte, in Ceará, the land where the priest died.
