Cavusoglu for F-16: ‘Negotiations with USA are going well’ – New attack on Greece for ‘Turkish minority’

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu addressed Turkey’s discussions with the US on the F-16 in new statements on Wednesday, claiming that they are going well and that the negative atmosphere that existed in Congress in past years has disappeared.

“The F-16 negotiations are going well. The (US) government’s approach is very positive,” the Turkish foreign minister said in a televised interview.

As reported by the Anadolu Agency, “after Turkey’s unfair expulsion from the F-35 program, we are trying to negotiate an agreement with the US for the sale of F-16s and upgrade kits for older models of the fighter jet,” said Mr. Çavuşoğlu to note that a US-Turkey “strategic mechanism” has been created on issues of concern to bilateral relations (Kurds, Gulen version) and that the first ministerial-level meeting has already taken place in New York.

Cavusoglu also stressed that the “negative atmosphere” observed in the US Congress in recent years has dissipated.

“This (bilateral) cooperation is also of strategic importance to NATO,” he said, as both countries have been members of the alliance for many decades.

“They are also aware of the role that the Turkish Republic has recently taken, and let’s hope that this awareness is not temporary,” Cavusoglu added, likely referring to the Turkish Republic’s key role in brokering the recent deal on Ukrainian grain exports. .

Attack on Greece for the “Turkish minority”

Cavusoglu took aim at Greece regarding the rights of “minorities”, arguing that Athens cannot talk about humanitarian issues.

He accused our country of “acting contrary to international law and violating basic human rights”.

“Because he despises the rights of the ‘Turkish Muslim minority’, he cannot have a say in the issue of human rights,” he argued.

Cavusoglu repeated the propaganda rhetoric that Greece harbors terror suspects and “allows PKK camps to operate on its territory”.

Finally, when asked about a possible new military operation in northern Syria, Cavusoglu said preparations were continuing and that “a sudden move will come,” echoing Tayyip Erdogan’s warning that such an operation would happen unexpectedly.
