CDU leader Friedrich Mertz is asking for measures to enhance competitiveness

The leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and most likely the next Chancellor Friedrich Mertz has expressed concern about the possibility that the US trade policy would cause further deterioration of the image in international financial markets and stressed the need for the new government. “The situation in international shares and bond markets is dramatic and there is a threat of deterioration,” Mr Mertz said, noting that “it is more urgent than ever for Germany to restore its international competitiveness as soon as possible and this issue should now be raised.” Friedrich Mertz also explained that “tax cuts for companies and citizens, a significant reduction in paralytic bureaucracy, reducing energy prices and stabilization of costs in the insurance system” are needed.
