United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin made a very promising statement, but that she “was not complete.”
Earlier Thursday, Putin said Russia agreed with US proposals to interrupt fighting in Ukraine-but made the exception that any ceasefire should lead to lasting peace and deal with the roots of the conflict.
Putin also questioned details of an eventual ceasefire, such as who will be responsible for ensuring that he will be respected, as the border between Russia and Ukraine is over 2,000 kilometers long.
During an Oval Hall meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump also said his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is in serious discussions with Russia about the end of the war in Ukraine.
“I hope they do the right thing,” said Trump.
