Celac-China dome exalts “Global South” agenda

The Celac-China summit brings together at dawn on Tuesday (13) Latin and Chinese leaders, in an intense agenda that is part of the events of the so-called global south, which also includes the BRICS and G20 summit.

In addition to Lula, the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, and Presidents Gabriel Boric, from Chile, and Gustavo Petro, from Colombia will be at the meeting.

The trade balance between CELAC and China countries added $ 427 billion between January and September 2024, according to data from the China Ministry of Commerce.

The summit aims to increase this figure, precisely as China needs to find new destinations for industrial production in the midst of the commercial war with the United States.

During the trip, Lula also participated in the Brazil-China Business Seminar.

Apex announced agreements that total US $ 27 billion in direct investments from Chinese companies in Brazil.

Promises include: the expansion of the operations of a Chinese automaker; the contribution of a delivery technology company; the creation of a renewable energy center in Piauí; and the construction of a neutral industrial park in carbon emissions.

Part of Chinese investments in Brazil is already consolidated. The novelty of the forum, however, was the focus on service contributions.

At the end of the meeting, President Lula praised the relationship between the two countries. And he compared the government itself to the Chinese communist revolution, which raised Mao Tsé-Tung to power after World War II.

“The only reason I believe it was worth the Chinese revolution in 1949 and what was worth our elections in Brazil is to prove that when a government has social commitments and does not forget the origins of those who have come to power, and want to take it to all, things get better,” said the president.
